Update travel mode on shift

How travel mode is determined and how it affects the planning

When you assign a candidate to a shift we automatically calculate the travel time of the candiate to the work site and back.

We do this in the background, in the same way you would do it using Google Maps.

In order to do this we need to determine if a candidate is able to drive or will use available transit options to get to and from the work site.

If a candidate has the following 2 flags:

  • driver
  • car owner

marked as checked, then we automatically presume the candidate will drive to work.

Otherwise, we assume that the candidate will use fastest available transit method.

How to update travel mode

In order to edit the travel mode on a shift you have to:

  1. open the details of the shift
  2. locate the middle column and the candidate details
  3. switch between TRANSIT and DRIVING in the dropdown on the right-hand side of the "Travel mode" label

A small circle with a message should appear in place of the candidate travel mode.

The shift details will reload once the process is complete.

This will automatically trigger a cascade of background operations that should:

  • get the new travel time using the newly selected travel mode
  • revalidate the door-to-door (D2D) travel time exceedances and remove any that don't apply anymore
  • recalculate the fatigue and risk index for the selected and following shifts
